Guided tours in the Rune Singer's Village include an introduction to the Karelian way of life and construction culture, mesmerising kantele compositions and tales of the rune singers of Ilomantsi. War history is an intrinsic part of Ilomantsi’s recent history and at the Mesikkä Animal Museum, one can immerse themselves in the relationship between human and nature.

Winter Season

Price: 6 € / pax, guided tour 140 € / 160 € (incl. kantele music)  

Validity period: 1.10.-31.12.,1.1.- 31.4. (Museum buildings of Mateli, Border General's Cabin and All Saints Chapel are not included in the guided tour during 1.10.-31.4.)

Programme Description

The group arrives in Parppeinvaara Rune Singer's Village and the guide will lead them to the Rune Singer's House. The guided tour begins with an introduction to Karelian culture and a session of kantele music. From the Rune Singer's House the guided tour proceeds via museum buildings of Mateli Kuivalatar to the Border General’s Cabin which is a real part of Rukajärvi’s battlefront war history.  The guided tour also includes the All Saints Chapel and the Mesikkä Animal Museum.

There is the possibility to purchase souvenirs from the museum shop Parppeinpuoti.

Coffee or lunch can be purchased for an additional fee at Parppeinpirtti Restaurant.
