Mira Heikillä has developed her transcultural and transmedia
'worlding' skills over decades of experimentation, using the
affordances of the human body, linguistic codes and mental processes
as building blocks. Mira Heikillä's art has been nourished by years
of studying Sanskrit writings and transcends disciplinary
specialisation. It is nourished by a natural and direct grasp of the
basic principles of human existence. Her epistemology encompasses what
we now call 'art' and the 'first-person science of consciousness'. In
these past years she has begun to integrate biological materials into
her work, enabling her to materialise her vision through luminous
structures with symbolic resonances. As a result, her work is charged
with an obvious transhistorical dimension. The work with Himmeli
‘Constellation' is a process of exploration into important issues of
ecological sustainability, intersectionality and cultural
transformation. Mira's interest in linking her work to pedagogy offers
exciting opportunities for collaborative learning with different
audiences. Mira Heikkilä was selected as the inaugural participant in
the Pantopian Residency at SER in Prayssas, Lot-et-Garonne, France,
for the period of 2023-2024. This is a space for reflection on
fundamental questions for the Anthropocene, inspired by the
intellectual legacy of Michel Serres, the French philosopher. Mira is
also studying at the University of Turku and has a project in the
Karelian village of Ilomantsi, famous for its tradition of
poet-singers. The project, called The Creation of Word, aims to bring
together manual work, agriculture, and creation, surrounded by the
mythical Karelian forest.
